*Only schools authorised by the IB Organization can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (Primary School Programme), the Middle School Programme (MYP), or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). This school is already an authorised IB World School as a result of authorisation of its IB Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12. The Middle School Programme is designed to develop the knowledge and skills of our students. All subjects are taught in English, with the exception of Albanian Language and Literature. Along with the academic knowledge that is gained, students develop communication skills, collaboration skills, creative problem solving skills, and critical thinking skills. These 21st century skills allow our students to succeed at university and beyond.

Our subjects are supported by a wide range of resources of the highest quality, international textbooks, and a research-based curriculum. Teaching and learning are driven by student inquiry. Students are encouraged to ask questions and seek answers. This means that our school library is a central part of our school. Students are active participants in their learning and not just passive recipients of knowledge.

Interdisciplinary Teaching And Learning

Significance of Interdisciplinary Learning

Albanian College  supports the idea that adolescent learners organically make connections as they learn new ideas or information as they seek to make connections to the various environments around them. As Secondary disciplines can often develop knowledge and understanding in isolation, as teachers are experts in their specific fields and strive to deepen understanding of specific disciplinary topics, AC believes that philosophy that “an ever-changing world also demands education that empowers people to integrate disciplines in novel and creative ways”.

Projects

Aims of the Projects

The aims of the projects are to encourage and enable students to:

• Participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context.
• Generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation.
• Demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time.
• Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
• Demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning.
• Appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

A commitment to comunity service is a shared value throughout our Grades 6-10 community, our school as a whole, and Albania, and one in which we strive to maintain and develop in our students.

Our Grades 6-10 learners develop the mindsets and skills to be caring participants of the world’s communities, who pursue opportunities to demonstrate a personal commitment to service in order to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.
